And then?

As we all know, 42 is the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Unfortunately, Douglas Adams has published his famous novel The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy back in 1979 and therefore – although undoubtedly being an exceptional visionary head – he could not anticipate the insufficient performance of future supercomputers. If he had been capable to do so, for sure he would have recognized that a simple and short question would be able to pulverize this computer-generated wisdom. This simple question is: and then? (Many thanks to Evelyn Roll for this!)

Is it just me who has the feeling that growing complexity nowadays is being answered with a proportional increasing of simplification? Of course I unterstand that this sometimes is human nature but it does not make things any better. Even a growing child easily understands that setting the first domino in motion will lead to make all other dominoes fall. Why does this simple truth seem to be far too complicated for an increasing number of politicians as well as European citizens in general? OK, let’s close all borders beginning in Sweden and ending in Greece, let’s build up new walls, let’s terminate all existing EU contracts and let’s start a new era of specific national solutions for global problems. And then? I’m pretty sure everything will be fine then! It’ll be so easy to return to the world of the 1960s. Where does this maelstrom of ignorance and short-sightedness come from? Even as a child I was laughing about the image of the ostrich’s head-in-the-sand principle because I took it a little as a joke. Ups…

Dear Europeans, have you ever noticed how insignificant we are in the divine plan for the world? Especially when destroying one of our greatest contributions to civilisation: international understanding and integration. Just saying… 😉

P.S. I’m still convinced that there’s intelligent life out there and I cannot wait to start my search for it…
